Oh to cosplay.... one day.

All this talk of Gamescon lately has got me wondering what I would cosplay as if I ever were to cosplay. Granted, I in no way have the body shape for any sort of that right now, it would take a lot of work and effort, but I'm pretty sure it would be worth it in the end. Plus my husband and I have already talked about how fun it would be to cosplay, and while he was thrilled with the idea of me dressing up like someone from a game or anime, he wasn't too keen on the hundreds of horny basement-dwellers gawking.

Anyway, back on track, it didn't take me long to decide what my cosplaying goal would be. Or at least the realm containing possible goals. The Prince of Persia series has always been my favorite, so I would have to go for either Farah or Elika. My only problem (besides me currently looking like a fat otaku) would be deciding which of the girls to go for. People have told me many times that I look a bit like Elika, from 2008's PoP:

Not a horrible choice, all things considered. She's dressed relatively decent, for a vidjagame chick anyways. I know I could do the hair, at least.

My second (and third, as it were) option is to be Farah. My only issue here is, would I play the Farah from Sands of Time or the Farah from The Two Thrones? They have some significant differences, and while I think I like the character of the Sands of Time Farah, I prefer the costume of the Two Thrones one.
To the left here is the Farah from the Sands of Time. Her costume is simple, not too revealing (I'm loving the fact that her skirt goes to mid-thigh and I wouldn't have to wear anything..... drafty.
If nothing else, I could definitely do the whole hairintheface thing. That's something I've always been good at.

The Farah from the Two Thrones is a bit more complicated:

Instead of a costume that could be achieved with nothing but cloth, this Farah has some definite leather/metal action going on, something that could prove problematic. Her bow is a lot more detailed as well. Check out those weird patterns.

Also it looks like this skirt a bit more on the skimpy side, so I'd definitely have to make sure I was absolutely ready to go after portraying her.

In the end, I would probably go the lazy route and just go after Elika since her costume looks the simplest, but would that be unfair to poor Farah?

Stopping and Looking

I finally finished the first Assassin's Creed. I consider that something of an accomplishment, even if I never ever go back and collect those hundreds of flags.

So now Desmond is posing as Ezio, and I find myself loving Italy. Well, not so much Italy, because of all the Italians (who I have nothing against, but when you are trying to escape from the guards they tend to get in your way and clog the streets and whatnot), but mainly, I noticed as I was playing this morning, that I am loving the game simply for the location -

As I was clambering about within the Duomo in Firenze, I realized that I was smiling. Why? Because with the light streaming in through the windows in lovely golden hues while dust motes floated down about my agile hero as I guided him along the scaffoldings and beams and chandeliers of the church, I couldn't help but compare it to the first platforming game I ever played: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Now, games have come a very long way as far technically since that game, but technology is not my focus. I love it when a game makes you stop, just look, and realize you are holding your breath because of how beautiful it is.

Granted, the Duomo was the first time ACII has made me do this, but my point is that this happens very rarely for me. Only a handful of games, that I can think of, have made me stop at some point or another and just look.

The video above is from ACII, the location to which I was referring earlier, while the image below is from Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.

Maybe Ubisoft is just good at getting us to stop and look, because another series of games (a series this time, mind you, not just one game IN a series) that takes my breath away is the Myst series:

A few games I am looking foward to playing are Uncharted1 & 2 and Red Dead Redemption. I have watched Cody, my husband, play Uncharted 1, and it was gorgeous, but the second one is rumoured to be even more gorgeous -

Also, who doesn't love cowboys???

What about you? What games have made you stop and just go "oh!"?

How many does that make?

Ok, so I finished my favorite game for the nth time last night. It never gets old.
Sometimes, my time is improved, sometimes not. Sometimes I finish in six and a half, sometimes in twelve. My first try took me twenty. Ugh.
I don't fall so much.
I rarely die.
I know every corner, every twist and turn and drop.
Almost every line of dialogue.
I finally mastered that one move (D up, hold R, then A+B) where you run a bit, back up against the wall and charge off with your sword ahead of you - the one move that instantly drops anyone. Well, almost anyone. It doesn't bother those guys with the chains. They just block you. How I don't know. But they do.
This last time, I increased my health meter more than any time before.
I also had more attack capability than ever.
Somehow, the end boss took a really long time. Why?
I still got lost in the library. I always do. I finish 2/3 of it and then, when it comes time for the last bit, I get turned around and go the wrong way.
The only question I find myself asking is, "When one finishes a game however many times I've finished this game, and I've memorized almost everything about the game and the platforming finally seems easy and everything goes by in a blur - is the game really fun anymore? Is it possible to do the same things forty-nine million times and still enjoy it?"
